Janice Parente will present a lecture exploring what happens when systems fail to protect the people who participate in human research. Drawing on real Canadian cases from her book Ethics on Trial: Protecting Humans in Canada’s Broken Research System, Janice will examine how gaps in oversight and accountability continue to place research participants at risk, and why ethical governance must continuously evolve.
The lecture will highlight the importance of strengthening research ethics systems through human research protection programs and accreditation to ensure that progress in science never comes at the expense of humanity.
